Nintendo has been around for over 100 years and has been active in the video game industry for decades. Compared to the likes of Sony and Microsoft – its two modern-day rivals – the Kyoto-based company is very much the elder statesman of the industry; it not only pioneered technical innovations which are now commonplace, but it is also the custodian of some of the most recognisable brands in the business.

But enough of all that, let's cut to the chase – which of Nintendo's systems is the absolute best? The company paid down the foundations of the console industry with its Famicom / NES and arguably created an entirely new sector when it released the Game Boy – a groundbreaking portable console which featured interchangeable cartridges. However, some of its hardware projects have been markedly less successful than others, with the Virtual Boy and Wii U proving to be costly commercial duds.

Even so, sales figures don't always mean a platform hasn't become a personal favourite for at least a handful of people, so before we compile our list of the best Nintendo consoles, we wanted you – our dear readers – to rank them for us. Vote in the poll below, and feel free to explain your choice by posting a comment at the end.
